ABOUT THE ARTIST
Hi! My name is Rosalie, and I am a mixed-media artist specializing in portraits made with pencil or acrylic paint. All of my artworks are created with love in my home studio based in Amsterdam, the Netherlands.

I have been drawing from the day I was old enough to hold a pencil, and making art has been at the core of my existence ever since. I am a fully self-taught artist, meaning I learned how to draw and paint by trial and error and years of skill-building.
This has led me to develop my own technique that makes my style precise, distinctive and unique.
I create contemporary artwork inspired by empowering voices in popular culture, in a pop-realistic style that especially speaks to today's younger generations.

ABOUT THE ARTWORK
Realism meets pop art
I've always been drawn to representational art and the technical challenges that realism presents. The portraiture of faces in particular remains a favourite of mine. I love capturing the features and small details in a person's face that make it unique.
Even though a part of me will always be pushing towards refining my skill as a realistic artist, in recent years I've found myself breaking free from traditional ways of portraiture and experimenting with different styles, techniques, and ways to approach a subject. One of the main inspirations for my work has always been popular culture and the way it's presented in movements like street art and pop art. I especially notice myself leaning strongly towards the look and feel of the latter, utilizing images and icons from popular media and everyday objects to produce vibrant compositions.
At the moment I'm having fun exploring how to combine my near photographic rendering with those pop art elements. This way I feel like I'm creating art that exhibits beauty and timelessness, but also contains something cool and contemporary.
